About the artist

Andrés Galeano (b. 1980, Mataró, Spain) is an artist based in Berlin and Barcelona. He holds a Philosophy degree from the University of Barcelona, a Photography diploma from the Freie Fotoschule Stuttgart and a Sculpture/Free Arts degree from the Kunsthochschule Weißensee Berlin. He works with photography, video, installation and performance and has realised exhibitions and performances throughout Europe, Latin America, USA and Canada.

Andrés Galeano’s oeuvre investigates photography as a metaphor of transcendency. As a post-photographer, he readapts and conceptually reframes other people’s photographs. The project Unknown Photographers collects vernacular photos from the end of the Kodak era, organises and collages them into various sub-studies to mirror photography itself and reflect on the photographic desire to transcend the moment. Google in View investigates 360-degree panoramic photographs uploaded to Google. Galeano is interested in the desire to make photographically visible and accessible even the most remote places in the World, mistakes in those photographs, authorship and the contemporary digital sky. In The Eternal Photo he thinks about the photographic bodies of humans by autopsying porcelain portraits of cemetery tombstones.
